Abstract
The note argues that New York's domestic violence laws are insufficient as they fail to recognize non-physical forms of abuse, specifically coercive control and technological abuse. It emphasizes the need to expand the legal definition of domestic violence to include these forms, particularly in light of the increased prevalence during the COVID-19 pandemic, which trapped victims at home with their abusers.
