2L Student Jhaton White Makes History as Cardozo Law Review's First Black Editor in Chief

When 2L student Jhaton White found out last week that he had been elected as the first Black Editorin-Chief of the Cardozo Law Review, he said, “my dad called me a legend and compared me to Barack Obama. He still hasn’t stopped and It’s kind of sweet. My mom was really excited as well. We hugged, she told me how proud she is to be my mother and that she knew I would get the position. We also had a quick dance party in the kitchen, then I had to jump on Zoom and join Volume 42’s election process.”

Cardozo Law Ranked Top Ten in the Country for Intellectual Property (#10) and Alternative Dispute Resolution (#8) by US. News & World Report

The U.S. News & World Report Law School Rankings were announced March 30 and Cardozo School of Law held its place at 53rd in the nation in the 2022 rankings. Cardozo is a top ten school nationally in IP (#10) and Dispute Resolution (#8). The law school is #1 in New York City for Dispute Resolution and #2 in New York City for Intellectual Property.

Professor Rebecca Ingber Testifies Before House Rules Committee

Professor Rebecca Ingber testifed March 23 before the House Rules Committee, at a hearing examining possible reforms to the War Powers Resolution. The panel included Tess Bridgeman, CoEditor-in-Chief, Just Security; Senior Fellow and Visiting Scholar, NYU Law's Reiss Center on Law and Security and John B. Bellinger III, Partner, Arnold & Porter; former Legal Adviser to the Department of State and the National Security Council.

Moot Court Honor Society Team Places Second in the Regional Round at INTA Competition

Cardozo’s Moot Court Honor Society competition team came in second in the regional round of the International Trademark Association (INTA) 30th Annual Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition, held in February. The event is a trademark moot court competition that brings in around 80 teams from six regions around the country. Their second place finish qualified the team for the National Competition on March 13. At the national round, Oralists Nigel Pura-Bryant and Matthew Jacobs, both 2L students, competed against the top teams from each region.

Statement on the March 16 Shootings in Atlanta

We condemn the unspeakable tragedy in Atlanta yesterday, in which eight people died at the hands of a 21-year-old gunman. Six of the victims were women of Asian descent. The rise in anti-Asian discrimination and crimes during the coronavirus pandemic has already had a traumatic impact on that community. We mourn for the victims and extend our deep condolences to their grieving families and to the Asian-American community already reeling from high levels of racist attacks. These senseless killings force us all to confront the realities of hate, discrimination and racial violence as real and present dangers.

Bella Pori '21 Receives 2021 Paris Baldacci Scholarship for Outstanding Student Work on LGBT Rights

Bella Pori ’21 has been selected as the recipient of the 2021 Paris Baldacci Scholarship for Outstanding Student Work on LGBT Rights. This scholarship was created in honor of Professor Paris Baldacci, beloved professor emeritus who died on September 6, 2020. During his lifetime, he was always present during the ceremony when the recipient received the scholarship.

Dean Melanie Leslie and Vice President for Institutional Advancement Adam Gerdts are pleased to announce the appointment of Rachel McNassor as Associate Dean of Advancement at the Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University. McNassor is an experienced advancement professional with an impressive track record of fundraising successes. She has worked at Yeshiva University since 2019 in posts of increasing responsibility, which will help build institutional cohesion for growth. McNassor will retain the title of Associate Vice President of Advancement at YU while also leading the Cardozo advancement efforts.

To the Cardozo community, Over the past year, during the pandemic, there has been a deeply disturbing surge in violence, hate crimes and verbal assaults directed against Asian Americans. As you may know, President Biden has signed an executive order condemning the attacks and calling for better data collection to help understand these disturbing trends in criminal violence.

Trophies for the Empire Panel Focuses on Professor Rudenstine's Forthcoming Article

In 1801, Lord Elgin of England claimed to have obtained a document from the Ottoman Empire giving him permission to dismantle several sculptures from the Parthenon. These sculptures were subsequently added to the British Museum’s permanent collection. Today, the debate continues over which nation, England or Greece, can claim true ownership of the artifacts.

ADR Competition Honor Society Team Wins Best Negotiation and Best Overall at UCLA Transactional Law Competition

Cardozo’s ADR Competition Honor Society’s team, which included 3L Geena Caporale and 2L Victoria Sadosky, won “Best Negotiation” and “Best Overall” at this year's UCLA Transactional Law Competition on February 26, during which 18 schools and 26 teams competed.
