Abstract
This lively and wide-ranging discussion of Stanley Fish’s book Law at the Movies delves into the book’s central concerns: the connection between cinema and legal doctrine, and the complex relationship between classic Hollywood cinema and the foundations of modern liberalism. After two extended commentaries on the book from Professors Julie Stone Peters and Peter Goodrich, Professor Fish responds to their questions, critiques, and provocations before describing some of the new directions in which his research on this topic is taking him, including some intriguing arguments about film noir.
