Abstract
The article argues that the adoption of no-fault divorce legislation in New York, particularly the 2010 law allowing divorce based on the irretrievable breakdown of a marriage, has significantly improved the ability of individuals, especially women, to exit unhappy or abusive marriages without the need to prove fault. The author contends that this legislation has equalized the playing field for men and women in divorce proceedings and has provided a safer and more dignified way for victims of domestic violence to leave dangerous relationships.
