Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution
Abstract
Thank you very much to the Board of the Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution for inviting me here today. I am honored to be speaking at this conference and participating in an event with so many distinguished experts in the conflict resolution field. I spend most of my time working on the challenging issue of climate change and, as we all know, energy is both a significant part of the problem and a significant part of the solution. I often have the opportunity to speak at and attend conferences on climate and energy and I like to monitor over time the shifting moods of the attendees and speakers, akin to taking the "temperature of the room," as many of us in the conflict resolution field like to call it. If I had to plot the current mood on a curve with time on the Xaxis and mood on the Y-axis, right now we would be in one of those lowly valleys. The science seems to be getting more and more alarming, and the policy response does not seem to be coming fast enough, but I will throw in a plug here for the Environmental Protection Agency ("EPA") because the Agency is definitely doing its part.
