Abstract

The Editors of the Cardozo Online Journal of Conflict Resolution publish this debate with sadness over the death of James Boskey, who died recently, but with gratitude to have this opportunity to present and preserve his wisdom, knowledge and humor.

Should Mediators Evaluate: A Debate Between Lela P. Love and James B. Boskey marks our inaugural publication of the Cardozo Online Journal of Conflict Resolution (“COJCR”) which the Journal would like to dedicate to the life and works of James Boskey. In the months before his untimely passing, Professor Boskey graciously encouraged us to proceed with the publication of the Debate although he was too ill to edit it himself. His encouragement of our efforts underscores his profound commitment to ADR studies. COJCR is honored to feature his work, and we are confident that his pedagogical achievements will continue to have a positive impact on future students and practitioners of ADR

COJCR would like to acknowledge five individuals for their invaluable contribution to COJCR. Although COJCR is publishing for the first time in 1999, the Journal was founded in 1998 by four Cardozo law school students who developed and nurtured COJCR at its early stages. We would like to thank Jed Melnick, Robert Rigolosi, Dara Reiner and Shana Tessler for entrusting their legacy to us. We would also like to extend our gratitude to Professor Lela P. Love, for sharing with us her immense knowledge of and passion for ADR.

Finally, COJCR thanks Dr. Ira Kukin, Jonathan Kukin and the entire Kukin Family for their generous grant. It is their support that is helping us to establish COJCR and the Cardozo School of Law as an academic leader in Conflict Resolution Studies.
