The Center for Rights and Justice (CRJ) unites more than 25 Cardozo initiatives dedicated to realizing justice through rigorous scholarship, public policy reform, and direct client advocacy. Grounded in over 45 years of progressive legal education at Cardozo, the CRJ is committed to advancing fairness, equality, accountability, transparency, and access within legal systems.

As an interdisciplinary hub, the CRJ engages faculty and students across clinics, field initiatives, and research programs in areas such as civil rights, consumer justice, immigrant rights, and criminal law. Signature activities include Public Law Advocacy Week, which brings together practitioners, advocates, and scholars to discuss pressing public interest matters. It also supports faculty research on pivotal issues such as solitary confinement, consumer protection, and civil liberties.

Under the direction of Professor Alexander Reinert, the Max Freund Professor of Litigation & Advocacy, the CRJ has emerged as a national leader in limiting the use of solitary confinement and advocating for constitutional rights in the criminal justice system.
