Cardozo welcomed the J.D. Class of 2026 and the largest LL.M. class in its history during a busy and festive Orientation that concluded this week. Students came from all over the country and around the globe, including South Korea, Ghana, France and Israel, to study in New York.

Civil Rights Clinic Reaches Settlement for Those Subjected to Polar Vortex Conditions in Federal Jail

Professor Betsy Ginsberg and her Civil Rights Clinic worked with Professor Alexander Reinert and the law firm Emery Celli Brinckerhoff Abady Ward & Maazel to come to a settlement with the federal government after people incarcerated at Metropolitan Detention Center, a Brooklyn federal jail, were subjected to a week without heat or electricity during a 2019 polar vortex.

Perlmutter Center Announces That Their Client Frans Sital Has Been Released From Prison

Perlmutter Center Deputy Director Derrick Hamilton Pens Op-Ed in NY Daily News

Perlmutter Center for Legal Justice Deputy Director Derrick Hamilton wrote an op-ed in the New York Daily News on Sunday, August 13 urging Governor Kathy Hochul to sign the Wrongful Conviction Act into law, stating, "the Wrongful Conviction Act will reduce crime, not increase it."

Cardozo Mourns the Loss of Ryan Dorsett '21

It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Ryan Dorsett, a distinguished member of the Cardozo Class of 2021, died on July 10. Ryan, 26, was a fellow at the New York State Department of Financial Services, where he conducted investigations of insurance, banking and financial services violations and performed other critical services.

Elenis that businesses have a First Amendment free speech right to refuse to provide some creative and artistic services to LGBTQ+ individuals. it is an important moment to reaffirm that Cardozo’s commitment to protecting LGBTQ+ people’s rights is steadfast and unwavering.

Cardozo Welcomes the 2023 May-Entry Class

The first members of Cardozo’s Class of 2026, the “May class,” began their law school journey last week.
There are 41 students in this year’s May class, with most hailing from New York, New Jersey or Connecticut. The class also features students from Arizona, California, Washington D.C., Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin. In addition to domestic students, Cardozo welcomed international students born in China, the Dominican Republic, France, Germany, India and Iran.

Shelley Wu '23 and Ilona Ehrlich '23 Selected as 2023 Recipients of Mark Whitlock Scholarship

Cardozo School of Law is pleased to announce Shelley Wu '23 and Ilona Ehrlich '23 as the 2023 recipients of the Mark Whitlock Scholarship.
The Whitlock Scholarship was established by the friends and family of Mark Whitlock '10, who passed away from brain cancer while he was a student at Cardozo. The Whitlock family created this scholarship to celebrate Mark's joyous spirit and vitality. It is awarded to outstanding third-year J.D. students who, through individual effort, energy, spirit and initiative, contribute to and/or expand and strengthen student life and community at Cardozo. This year, for the first time, there are two scholarship recipients.

Bruce Bryant, Released After 30 Years in Prison With the Help of the Perlmutter Center for Legal Justice at Cardozo Law, Visits and Thanks Cardozo Students

In an emotional visit to the Cardozo Law campus on April 26, two days after his release from prison, Bruce Bryant thanked students from The Perlmutter Forensic Science Freedom Field Clinic who helped him win clemency.
A round of applause echoed through the hallway as he arrived with Josh Dubin, the executive director of The Perlmutter Center for Legal Justice at Cardozo Law.

It was a day of jubilation for Bruce Bryant, the first client of The Perlmutter Center for Legal Justice at Cardozo School of Law as he celebrated his release from prison on April 24th, after New York State Governor Kathy Hochul granted him clemency in December.

Heyman Center Panel Discusses Non-Compete Clauses

The Federal Trade Commission’s controversial proposal to ban employee non-compete clauses was the subject of a panel discussion moderated by Cardozo Professor Sam Weinstein on April 3. It was sponsored by the Heyman Center on Corporate Governance. Designed to protect company trade secrets, client lists and other confidential information from being divulged when employees move to competing companies, non-compete clauses have been expanded in recent years to include workers in a variety of low-paying jobs ranging from custodians to security guards. They are so common that it is estimated that 18% of employees are required to sign them, prompting the attorney general of New York and others to file lawsuits against the practice.

Cardozo Mourns the Death of Benjamin B. Ferencz

Cardozo School of Law and Yeshiva University mourn the passage of Benjamin B. Ferencz, the last surviving prosecutor of the Nuremberg trials and a deeply passionate supporter and friend of Cardozo Law School and its students, who died on April 7 at an assisted living facility in Boynton Beach, Fla. He was 103.
