The 2000s at Cardozo marked a decade of continued growth in student engagement and academic innovation, shaped in part by the challenges of a rapidly changing world. Student life remained active, with new organizations forming to reflect evolving legal interests and global perspectives. Experiential learning expanded through additional clinics and externships, offering students practical experience in a range of legal fields. The events of September 11, 2001 deeply affected the Cardozo community, prompting reflection, resilience, and a renewed commitment to public service and legal advocacy. Later in the decade, the Great Recession brought economic uncertainty that influenced student priorities and underscored the importance of legal education in navigating complex financial and social systems. Student publications continued to thrive, with the launch of the Cardozo Public Law, Policy and Ethics Journal and the Cardozo Journal of Law & Gender, both contributing to the school’s scholarly output and fostering student-led exploration of contemporary legal issues. By the end of the decade, Cardozo had strengthened its reputation as a law school where students played an active role in shaping legal thought and practice, even amid national and global upheaval.
